The Birth of FEMEN

(31 Jul, 2009) Ukraine have passed a law in 2009 making possession of any kind of pornographic material illegal. So adult film industries or individuals can not produce, distribute and possess porn movies. But that law was not enough for the girls of FEMEN.

FEMEN (Ukrainian: Фемен) is a feminist protest group founded in Ukraine in 2008.

FEMEN girls wanted to make it impossible for Ukrainians to watch or search for porn online on the Internet. So they protested in front of the Information Technology office in the capital of Ukraine by having Google logo written on their topless backs. They demanded that search engine giant ban all types of pornographic materials from their search results.

FEMEN’s “topless” anti-porn protest made quite an impact and this was the birth of the topless protesters named FEMEN.
