Fraud Alert : Fake IP address on FIVERR fooling customers
Fiverr, stylized as fiverr, is a global online marketplace offering tasks and services, referred to as ‘gigs’ beginning at a cost of $5 per job performed, from which it gets its name. The site is primarily used by freelancers who use Fiverr to offer a variety of different services, and by customers to buy those services. It effectively acts as microtask marketplace.
But there is the dark side to FIVERR : Fiverr is filled with bored (scammy) college kids trying to make a buck on the side and pure scammy Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani & SE asians. The website uses IP tracking to confirm which user is signing up from where in the world. But this IP tracking technology is very easy to fool using Virtual IP technology.
Most of the profile are made my Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi’s who uses fake pictures and fake profiles to lure in unsuspecting customers.
Once the customer is lured in they bombard them with armature and ugly design concepts which the customers are forced to accept as the payment is so low ($5 only). The customer is psyched to think that it is very obvious that this was the expected design quality for the “fiverr”! e-cloudy recently posted a project to find out what was happening in Fiverr.Here is what came out of the investigations : Indian Call Center Prank. Here is a LIVE project which e-cloudy personally handled on FIVERR, I will let the words do the explaining :* teri ma ki (f**k your mother) The logo designed for $5 by one of the fake IP user’s OneSnap (based in India), even his comment section is fake (except for my comment) posted by his friends. He had me baffled by his very impressive clientele gallery (which I later found out to be fake as well) :
