Gözde Kansu, one of Turkey’s most popular female TV presenters, apparently showed “too much boobs” live on air. As she is a Muslim, she cannot do so and so they had to sack her.
Hüseyin Çelik, a spokesperson for the country’s socially conservative Justice and Development Party (AKP) complained. The AKP, which was founded in 2001 as a centre-right socially conservative party. Its background is traditionally influenced by Islam, but still the party is viewed as generally a pro-western party!
“We don’t intervene against anyone, but this is too much… Her dress is unacceptable,” Çelik told the Daily Mail.
Çelik slammed Kansu’s “boob show” dress during the Turkish Veliaht TV show as “immoral and unacceptable”.
Show producers initially tried to conceal the incident by claiming Kansu choose her own wardrobe and also that she would not take part in a forthcoming episode of the programme because of her “wardrobe choice”.
According to France24.com her dismissal due to her boobs was later confirmed.
Turkey is a predominantly Muslim country, but has a secular constitution.
