Gulabo Sitabo mends the Hatred Instilled in Hearts of Billions
At a time when a fascist ideology called “Hindutva” is spreading like a cancer in the entire of continent of India, it is quite the norm that the Indian film industry will try to support the trend of times.
That trend of times is unfortunately “hate the Muslims” agenda. Ofcourse this hatred did not start due to no reason or fault of the religion that is being hated. Islam actually allowed the hatred to spread and the Muslims did not defend its integrity when thugs from the Middle-East was/is still tarnishing the religion and it’s teaching.
Since the birth of the word “Islamic Terrorism” Indians have been brainwashed by the local media and the (now in power) Hindutva practicing government. It does remind one of Adolf Hitler who was following similar strategies in instigating the hatred for the Jewish people in the hearts of the Europeans.
The Indian film industry, in recent times, would do anything for a blockbuster hit and for making money. They will actually make a movie script where they will make Muslim actors (such as Salmaan Khan) kill hundreds of so called “Islamic terrorists” and become a hero in doing so. Its just the trend of the recent times and there is nothing wrong with it. One film script where the Muslims (terrorists) are being “bashed” by Hindu heroes are okay but several other movies having the same twisted plot and script? Is that not propaganda to brainwash the citizens of India into hating someone who could be their neighbors, spouses, friends or colleagues? After all there are almost 200 million Muslims in India which makes it the second largest religion in India.
But the recently released Indian film on Amazon PRIME network titled “Gulabo Sitabo” with Amitabh Bachchan as a Muslim elderly man named Mirza tries to mend hearts and heal wounds instilled by the terrorists thugs of various middle-eastern nations and the now Indian government.
The Plot
Chunnan ‘Mirza’ Nawab (Amitabh Bachchan) is a stingy old man who is regarded by most people he knows as a greedy miser. His wife, Fatima Begum (Farrukh Jafar), who is 15 years older than him, is the owner of Fatima Mahal, a run-down mansion in Lucknow whose rooms are being leased out to various tenants, many of whom are not paying appropriate rent. Begum leaves Mirza with the responsibility of tending to the property, but Mirza cannot wait for Begum’s death, so the mansion can be passed down to him. Baankey Rastogi (Ayushmann Khurrana) is a poor tenant of the mansion with his mother and three sisters. He works at a wheat mill shop, and though he is happy with most things in his life, including his relationships with his family, he says he is unable to raise enough money to pay his rent, that has been overdue for months. He also pays a meagre amount for the rent, much less than all the other tenants, and makes false excuses in order to avoid paying up, much to the chagrin of Mirza. As a result, Mirza nags him to pay his dues whenever they cross paths.
The film is filled with moral values and religious unity as both an old Muslim man and a young Hindu man interacts with each other in the most funniest of ways. After all India is actually a country of several cultures and languages living together in one nation.
Amitabh Bachchan is from a generation of actors when one would never even think whether an actor or an actress was a Hindu or Muslim or Christian. The hatred in the hearts of Indians will eventually lead to the demise of the great nation, its people, its heritage and its rich culture which after a World War 3 destruction will not be existing any longer!
The Film
Shoojit Sircar has come up with yet another bang-on satirical and emotional movie with a priceless Jodi. The witty banter between 78-years old owner of a haveli, Mirza and an adamant tenant, Baanke Rastogi who refuses to vacate the premises adds fun to the movie. The story of the movie essentially conveys how greed can be poisonous.
The story of Gulabo Sitabo revolves around a mansion called, Fatima Mahal where the two men reside who in it are always at loggerheads regarding petty rent issues and tenant problems. The movie is a masterpiece in terms of brilliant acting by the duo.
